5 Fitness Life hacks to motivate yourself on a daily basis!

Yes, thats right… hacks to motivate yourself into staying on “the wagon” for your fitness goals.

WARNING – Will only work if you have a goal, a vision, a destination! So that’s your first step, figure out exactly what you want. Below I have listed some examples;

– I want to improve my Cardio-respiratory health. My resting heart rate is 81 bpm, I want to get it down to the average healthy person of 72 bpm in 3 months.
– I want to reach my pre-baby weight by June. 2016
– I want to be 20lbs less than I am right now  within 6 months
Etc…

This is extremely important guys, if you are trying to invest time and effort into going to the gym, running daily or anything else simply for the reason of “I dont like my body” than you are 80% more likely to fail.
Make your goals straight forward, as detailed as possible and WRITE IT DOWN! Not on a sticky that will be lost. In big letters on the mirror you look into everyday, on a piece of paper, framed by your coffee maker, on your computer desktop or screen saver. Somewhere, that guarantees you will see it every single day.

I repeat! ( repetition leads to success 😉 ) If you do not have goals than you do not have a destination… if you do not have a destination than you will be chasing your tail, and arriving no where.

We have all heard….  If you Fail to Plan, than you are Planning to Fail.   It is absolutely true.

K.. I think you get it. Moving on. Below are 5 Fitness Life hacks to help you take action every day.

1. Prepare the day before.

Fitness life hacksI work out in the morning, so at night I put my workout clothing on my dresser, everything down to what headband or hair tie I am using. When I get up in the morning the first thing I do it put the outfit on.
This is mental preparation. While you get dressed you are thinking about your workout weather your feelings are bad or good your thoughts are on it. Wearing these clothes will give you a feeling of obligation to follow through.

It doesn’t matter when you work out. The key is to have the outfit ready to go,  put it somewhere that will be in your face, in the location you will be in before its time to workout.

If you are taking any powdered supplements than make sure the scoop is already in the cup in your gym bag with a separate bottle of water.  Make sure your post-workout snack is ready to go, in the fridge so you can grab and go.

2. Dress for success.

A lot of people make the mistake of thinking, “All I’m going to do is sweat in it, I’m going to look like shit anyway” so they put on some old baggy clothes to workout in. Again this has a major mental effect on us. We must dress like we are already fit and feeling fabulous. YOU MUST FEEL IT TO ACHIEVE IT

You don’t have to spend a lot, there are places you can get decent workout clothes for a decent price. Eg. Joe Fresh (superstore) MOVE (Ardenes) and there are many more, for some those two options may not be available, but if you look there is many options. You can buy online for a better price. Get 1 or 2 outfits and stick with them, each month get a new item as a reward.

Just as you get a new dress, or a nice new pair of jeans that make you feel good. Your work out gear is equally as important. It is an investment worth making.

 3. Pump it up!

Set an alarm with a song that really motivates you! Have the alarm set for when it is time to go to the gym or workout. If you don’t have a set time for the gym, that’s okay. Set the alarm for anytime and when you hear that fitness life hackssong associate it with your goal. It is not to bring thoughts of your workout, it is to bring thoughts of your vision or destination. The association is up to you. Choose the song carefully.

I have recently recorded my most recent goal on my phone, and I have that to listen to when I feel unmotivated. It is just a recording of my voice describing my vision. I listen to this on repeat when I am driving by myself or cleaning. Repetition is what will make it crystal clear for your sub-conscious to understand what you want.

Also, keep your music list fresh and up to date on whatever device you use, with tunes that  you love. That way, when its time you can put on that song you just fell in love with 3 days ago and get to work!

4. Hold yourself accountable.

This one is for all us loners 🙂 For the people like myself who don’t have a work out buddy to hold us accountable. If you do or can have someone hold you accountable that is even better!

Keep a calendar in clear view that you mark on, each day that you successfully follow through with your workout mark the calendar with a big  green check mark. Each day that you fall off the wagon you get a big red X! This way you have something that is taunting you. If it is your rest day, and you rested.. then you get that big check mark!!!

Accountability doesn’t always have to be for the purpose of pointing out the short comings! At the end of the month, celebrate! However you wish to do so. This celebration should be logged as well! Make sure it doesn’t become a binge.

5. Make it fun!

Once a week I lot myself an active rest day. This means that I don’t go to the gym, but I do something! I take my dog and my son on a long walk on trails, stop and play at a park. At the park, I don’t stand and watch. I climb the stairs and hit those slides, I chase my dog around, I go everywhere my son goes. You would be surprised how tiring a child’s activity is, we get into the habit of sitting on the sidelines, but this is a good opportunity to be active.

Maybe a bike ride or a light jog in an area you have never been before. Use your imagination, and do something that makes you happy and serves your body at the same time.
